Why Unlock a PDF?
Typing a password every time you open a file gets old fast. Unlocking a PDF removes that prompt so you can read, print, and share the document freely, as long as you already know the password.

Removing a PDF password you already know, without a server
This tool removes password protection from PDFs, and one design decision defines it: the password never travels. Decryption happens in your browser's memory, so the file and the password stay on your device from start to finish. With a cloud unlocker, you send a stranger both the lock and the key; here, there is no one to send them to.
Two kinds of protection exist and they behave differently. A user password, the one that stops the file from opening at all, can only be removed if you know it: you type it, the file decrypts locally, and a clean copy without protection is written out. An owner password, the kind that lets the file open but blocks printing, copying or annotating, can usually be stripped without knowing it, because the content is not actually encrypted against reading.
Why remove protection at all? Because passwords age badly. The signed contract needs printing years later and the counterparty is gone; the statement must go to an accountant whose system rejects encrypted files; a batch process chokes on one protected file in a folder of hundreds. Removing your own protection from your own documents is routine document hygiene.
The honest boundary: this is not a password cracker. If you do not know the user password of a strongly encrypted file, this tool cannot open it, and that is by design, both ethically and technically; modern PDF encryption done right is not breakable in a browser tab. Only unlock documents you own or have the right to modify.
Details that matter in practice: the unlocked copy is a new file, the protected original stays untouched on your disk; unlocking does not alter content, signatures excepted, because some digital signatures bind to the encrypted form and may show as modified afterwards, so keep the original when signatures matter.
After unlocking, the file behaves like any other PDF here: it can be merged, split, compressed or watermarked. If you were unlocking specifically to re-protect with a new password, the Protect tool closes the loop, and the file will have spent the whole journey on your own machine.
